Why Paint Clothes?

Almost one year ago, I left my job to become a full-time creative.

I started making videos, writing music, making art, and living a completely different life. But there was one weird problem.

I still had a closet full of "business casual".

I couldn’t afford to throw it all out and buy a whole new wardrobe. So I kept wearing it. And naturally, I started getting paint on it.

At first it was accidental. Then it kept happening. And at some point I realized I didn’t care anymore. Who cares if I have paint on my clothes And once I had painted half my wardrobe, there was no going back.

Now I'm inviting you to embrace in the freedom of a messy, creative life. You can buy my custom one-of-one pieces on this site, or just go and spill some paint on your clothes.

Have fun and stay creative!

FAQ

What is Paint Factory?

Paint Factory is a hand-painted clothing brand by Grayson Sands. Each piece is made as wearable art, with real paint applied by hand instead of printed graphics or mass-produced designs.

Are the clothes really hand-painted?

Yes. The painted pieces are made by hand by Grayson Sands. They are not screen printed, digitally printed, or outsourced to look hand-painted.

Is every piece one of one?

Most painted pieces are one of one. Even when a similar idea is repeated, no two pieces come out exactly the same.

Where do the clothes come from?

Most Paint Factory pieces start with existing garments that I repurpose and paint by hand.

Instead of producing brand new clothing, I use real pieces that already exist and give them a second life through paint and design. Every item is selected, reworked, and turned into something completely different.

What kind of paint do you use on the clothes?

Paint Factory pieces are painted using acrylic paint in colors matched as closely as possible to Grayson’s signature brand palette. Note that acrylic paint is thicker and rougher than fabric paint.

Can hand-painted clothes be machine-washed?

Yes, but like anything handmade, results can vary from piece to piece. Grayson washes his normally, but Paint Factory garments may react differently in your washer. Test initially with a small load and wash alongside colors.

Will the paint crack, stick, or wear over time?

It can. That is part of the nature of hand-painted clothing. Some pieces stay smoother, some develop more texture, and some change with wear. Paint Factory is meant to feel personal and imperfect, not factory-perfect.

Do you make custom painted clothing?

Feel free to reach out via email for custom pieces.

Wear At Your Own Risk

Paint Factory is not perfect clothing, and it is not trying to be.

Paint can crack, soften, stick, or wear differently over time depending on the garment and how it is used.

I wear mine hard and treat them like normal clothes with no special treatment, but you should know going in that this is not factory-perfect apparel. It is wearable art.

If you want something original with a little risk, a little personality, and an actual human behind it, you are in the right place.
